Album containing biographies, articles and clippings (all but one from unidentified magazines or newspapers), portraits, manuscripts, and other materials relating to the life and career of the actress Adah Isaacs Menken. "Adah Isaacs Menken, the female sensation of the 19th century"; clipped article headed "Miss Menken and her poems. From the London Star, Aug. 14 [1868]"; clipped article headed "Had Dumas at her feet", with lead references to acquisition of photographs of Menken by Henry Gilsey of New York, N.Y.; playbill, with large portrait of Menken, for "D--l in Paris" and "Lola Montes", at Howard Athenaeum, Boston, 1 July 1862. Also includes 20 photographs of Menken, as well as 11 other portraits (in addition to those included in the biographies by Northcott and James), as well as portraits of R.H. Newell ("Orpheus C. Kerr"); William Selby Harney; Louis Gottschalk; Théophile Gautier; John C. Heenan; W.M.
